UK: IPT® Charging Station in Bristol

Hybrid double-decker buses equipped with IPT® Charge technology

It is one of the coIPT E-Bus induktiv Bristol12ncluding highlights in a series of green initiatives of the European Green Capital Bristol: With a launch event George Ferguson, mayor of Bristol, opened the service 72 for diesel-electric double-deckers in January 2016. The buses are inductively charged at the terminus of the line. The service connects the University of the West of England with the city centre. On parts of its way, for example in the city centre, the bus is driving emission-free. Outside of these sections, it is driving on a diesel-electric basis. The automatic switching between diesel-electric and purely electric driving is achieved with the help of geo-fencing. The aim is to significantly improve the air quality in chosen areas. Thanks to the inductive charging station every hybrid bus can drive main parts of the route electrically. The double-deckers were constructed by Alexander Dennis Ltd. and the operator of the line is First Bus Group.
